Why this blog?
I have wanted to write since I was a little child. When I was 14, one of my poems was published in Roma– An international journal on the life of the gypsies of Europe. I wrote poems till the age of 18 and then stopped writing as back in those days, writing was not considered a ‘conventional’ career in our country.
So, I reworked my goals and like every girl belonging to an Indian middle class family, started to work towards becoming a successful ‘Corporate Woman’ (whatever that means!) and got engrossed in (what I now call) the unending rat race of proving myself in front of others. To cut a long story short, I majored in Science with a Merit Scholarship and got an MBA in Retail Management with dual specialization in H.R & Marketing.
Afterwards, I chased my corporate dreams for nearly a decade. I worked with almost all top MNCs across different industries in Retail- Jack n Jones & Vero Moda (Operations), Shoppers Stop group (Operations), Major Brands (Audit) in Fashion Apparels, Kaya Skin Clinic (Operations) in SkinCare and Tata Group- Tanishq & Titan (Audit) to name a few. I topped SOP audits at All India Level, overachieved my targets and delivered deadline after deadline. It was a never ending process where I had to strive to prove myself every single day. I realized I had been slogging through a major part of my 20s to chase dreams that belonged to somebody else, completely forgetting my own dreams!
Sometime in 2014, I was appearing for an interview for the position of Area Head for a Danish MNC. During the interview, the Country Head, Operations asked me a question that shook me and changed the course of my life. He asked me- ‘So tell me, what’s your mojo in life?’ That’s the precise moment when Follow Your Mojo was born in my mind. Because, back then, I had all the answers related to my job profile but none about my own mojo in life. It had sadly been lost somewhere amidst all the number crunching. And at that very moment, I decided to find my mojo back and follow it for the rest of my life. Because, when I am 80 or 90, I want to look back at my life and experience the sheer bliss of having existed on this earth and having enjoyed every moment of that existence!
The subsequent months saw me freeing myself from the shackles of high profile full time corporate jobs I set out to chase my dreams and tick them off my bucket list one by one and the journey continues..
Why this blog? I almost hear you asking again…
It’s going to be a purely honest account of my experiences and learnings.
It’s going to be directing its efforts at inspiring people to follow their own mojo in life, whatever that is. I would consider myself lucky if I am able to inspire and give hope to even a single person in this process of following my own mojo. 🙂
