Starottel is one of the best hotels we came across during our trip to Gujarat. My rating is a very well deserved 8 on 10.
The hotel is situated on the Ashram Road which is a prime location of Ahmedabad. It is at a walkable distance from the Sabarmati Riverfront and is situated within 8 kms of the Railway Station and Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The hotel is a 4 * property and arguably so. The Dining Area is vast. The rooms are quite spacious and with a city view. Our room, in particular, had a view of Sabarmati Riverfront. Although the bathroom is very small but a separate bathtub is provided near the washbasin area. One thing which is definitely worth mentioning is the “Tree of Life” carved at the entrance wall of the hotel. This structure is a replica of the original “Tree of Life” of the Sidi Sayed Mosque in Ahmedabad. This symbol is truly an architectural marvel and has been adopted by IIM Ahmedabad as its official logo.
We found the room and washroom to be clean. There was complete set of toiletries in the washroom. Towels were thoroughly washed.
The hotel has a Gym and an open Swimming Pool situated at the rooftop. However, we were disappointed to know that there are timings to use even the Gym. The timings are 6am to 10am in the mornings and 5 pm to 9pm in the evenings. This is a major deterrent for people who would want to use the gym at their own convenient timings as most of the people don’t get up early when they are holidaying.
DINING EXPERIENCE- Though the buffet spread was not as detailed as we expected it to be but still all the options on the menu were delectable. The cuisines available were mainly North Indian, South Indian and Chinese. There was just a single option in Non Veg and 4 to 5 options in desserts like Sapodilla Cake, Chocolate Tartlet, Orange Gateaux and Angoori Rasmalai. We especially liked the improvisations they had made with the traditional Indian delicacies. For instance, the Cutlet GulabJamuns made out of the traditional GulabJamuns were beyond amazing. Local Gujarati food is not available at the hotel. For those who want to try the local food, the hotel is surrounded by small eateries which serve local Gujarati delicacies like Khakhra, Fafda and Khaman Dhokla.
HOSPITALITY- Staff was very courteous. They were greeting all the customers with smiles on their faces and seemed more than willing to help. However, we found the behaviour of one of the staff members very awkward. When we were dining in the restaurant, he was continuously staring at us. Then, he approached us many times and asked us if we required anything. We told him that we would call him on our own if we require something. But he still kept making appearances at our table again and again. Later, he made a very in your face request- Recommend my name to the Manager for good customer service, which we certainly didn’t do for obvious reasons. He was disrupting our privacy and not letting us enjoy our meals in peace.
However, overall our stay at the hotel was very pleasant. I strongly recommend those of you, who are paying a visit to Ahmedabad, to consider staying here.
